#70 - 7--iamlost456--Increase Your Internet Speed--2006-01-08 01:23:59
#This simple guide will show you how to optimize your current internet connection and allow for the fastest possible download and upload speeds. Sorry this guide is only for Windows, if you have a Mac, most of these settings are already taken care of. And like always, all the software and the guide itself is 100% free.

- Required Software for this tutorial:
- Windows 95 or later
- Internet Connection (Which I'll assume you have, since your reading this)
Step One
If you already have Firefox, skip to step 2, if not keep reading.
This web browser is the best browser to get for both speed and security. With this browser, we will be able to tweak several settings that are locked in IE, therefore it is the best way to go.
If you get any difficulty installing Firefox, simply refer to:
Guide To Installing Firefox
After you get Firefox download, I would reccomend bookmarking this page, this will allow you to find this page easily after you switch browsers. Firefox should import the bookmarks from IE. You will need to be in Firefox to do the next step of this guide.
Step Two
Now that you have downloaded and installed Firefox, you will need to install the FasterFox extension. This extension can be found at:
http://www.sheerboredom.net/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=28
This extension allows us to skip many manual tasks in tweaking Firefox and will save you much time and alot of headaches. After you download Fasterfox, you will have to close Firefox and open it again. Then you will be able to get the settings page for FasterFox.
To modify the FasterFox settings goto:
- Tools --> Extensions
- Then Click The FasterFox Extension
At this screen click the Options button when you have Fasterfox extension highlighted. This will open a options window that will allow you to tweak the internet performance settings of Firefox.
- Turbo-Charged
- Personally I use this setting and haven't had any problem with web pages loading, however some people have said that some sites will not work when using this setting. If you find this is occuring for you, then I would recommend to go down to optimized.
- Other the Fasterfox tab in the options menu, you can enable something called "Enhanced Prefetching". This will help load times increase a little on link within pages, however if you enable this and notice pages taking a longer time to load than before we started these tweaks, then I would disable this setting.
For more info on Fasterfox goto:

Step Three
This next step is
ONLY if you have cable or DSL internet. If you perform these registry tweaks to your system and have dial-up or satellite internet, they can slow down your internet, or cause damage to your system.
For the registry tweaks, follow the guide at:
http://www.sheerboredom.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=68
Step Four
After downloading and running the registry tweaks, close all programs and restart your machine. After your computer boots back up, all the tweaks should be activated and everything should be running alot smoother and faster.
Any questions or concerns simply leave a comment and I will gladly help you solve your problems:)
Have Fun Browsing The Internet!
